The Kodály Philosophy
The Kodály Philosophy is a concept of education steeped in experience-based teaching. It integrates many techniques and ideas into a comprehensive program to train basic musical skills. Key elements of this philosophy include singing, folk music, solfège hand signs, quality music, development of the complete musician, and purposeful sequencing of activities.
Five Points of Kodály's Philosophy:
1. Musical literacy is the right of every person.
2. Music learning begins with the voice - our natural instrument.
3. Music education should begin as early as possible.
4. Children possess a musical mother-tongue.
5. Only the best music (folk or composed) is good enough for children.
